Fat?

I walked inside my coffee shop to grab a coffee and study a bit before yoga this evening and as I was walking in a family was walking out. They has a daughter (probably 8) and a son (probably 4). And as I walked by the little boy repeated over and over while pointing "that lady is fat, far, fat."

The parents said nothing. They didn't even try to tell him what he was saying was inappropriate.

I acted like I didn't hear it when I should have told the parents that what they were allowing their child to say was not only completely inappropriate but it was also hurtful and downright mean.

I was so thrown that I haven't been able to focus at all and have gotten no studying done.

Wow. What an experience....

  1. Oh my god!! Although it's possible the boy's parents weren't saying anything about it because they were afraid to embarrass you, they NEED to say something to him when he does shit like that. He doesn't know any better...they do. UGH! I totally feel for you! Once I went on vacation with a friend of mine in high school and we stopped in a little town to visit her aunt & uncle. They had little girl, and as we were swimming in the pool later, the girl said something about how I might break their diving board if I tried to use it. Made me feel humiliated.

  2. Oh my, that is awful. I once decided to cycle to work, and on my way home I had to cycle up a hill, and a car with young adult males made some seriously nasty comments regarding my weight, they even honked so that I would notice them. I felt like crying all the way home and I did not use my bike for at least 4-5 years after that. I am still not ready to start using it. People can be so cruel I just dont understand it

  4. I'm so sorry to hear this :( Kids can be hurtful and if the parents don't correct them they wont know.

  5. So sorry Harli. That is horrifying. Those parents are failing their kids by not teaching them about the world, and how everyone comes in all shapes and sizes and the importance of not being cruel.

  6. Harli, I am so sorry you experienced this. Some people are oblivious to how things affect other people. You are a beautiful person. Don't let this stay with you! Hugs to you!
